Based on the MAX30105 particle sensing module by Maxim Integrated Products, this xChip is an advanced gas sensor module which features internal LEDs, photodetectors, optical elements, and low-noise electronics with ambient light rejection (generally used for fire alarms and other smoke detection applications).

Robust and versatile, the MAX30105 lets you sense distance, heart rate, particle detection and even the blinking of an eye. It comes complete with three LEDs plus an ultra-sensitive photon detector which pulses the different LEDs and analyses the light which what shines back. The light signature of any particle present (such as oxygenated blood or fire smoke) are then detected.

Among its many uses including Pulse Oximetry, the MAX30105 uses a red, green, and InfraRed LED for presence sensing, heart beat plotting and heart-rate monitoring.
